Before and After

I know...three posts in one day...but I'm really behind. The walls were painted today and I just couldn't wait until tomorrow to show a before and after shot of our family room. So...here tis. The walls are painted "Sand Dollar", the trim and doors are "Navajo White" and the tile is "Noce". I'm looking forward to moving the furniture back into this room. I'll post more pics later.

The Tile Got Better!

The entrance way tile was supposed to have a border around the edge where it steps down into the gameroom and the office. The contractor redid those pieces today and we just love how it looks. It really finished off this room. They also started putting the tile in the tv room as well. The trim is painted and a second coat of paint was put on the built in bookcase. The tile looks orange - but it's really not :) It's so hard to make the light cooperate...but you get the idea. I think it looks so amazing. It's been almost a week since we left, so I haven't seen it in person myself (thanks to Rennee and Bill who keep me in the loop!) The boys come home from Space Camp tomorrow. They have a little graduation ceremony in the morning. I can't wait to see them and hear how it all went. Then, we'll be making a birthday cake for my Grandmother's 92nd birthday. The party is on Saturday. We're looking forward to celebrating and playing bingo - I hope I win a prize!

The Bookcase is Painted and the Tile has Begun

I was so excited to get the pictures today from Rennee and Bill. The built in is so beautiful and makes me want to keep going around the corner and redo the cabinets...we'll see :) The bookcase doesn't have the shelves yet, but the holes are there to just slide them in and they will be adjustable. We also need to pick out hardware for the cabinet - but that will be super fun. The last two pics are of the tile. We picked a 20X20 inch chiseled edge tile. The picture does make it look much "orangier" than it really is. It's definitely in the brown and beige family. The grout will be a darker brown. I can't wait to see it all finished. They also put texture on the walls and ceiling today and installed matching baseboards around the breakfast room. Everyday is getting a little closer. I'm so excited. Thanks for reading along.

The Wall Came Down

So, I am on vacation in Huntsville, Alabama. We arrived late Saturday evening and the boys went straight to Space Camp on Sunday afternoon. They are having a grand time - I got to talk to Matt last night and he has been thrilled with all the activities they are able to do. I can't wait to hear all about it on Friday when I pick them up. Bill is at home fending for himself. We've kept up through phone calls and texting. That's been fun. Hopefully, he's catching up on sleep because the boys and I tend to stay up so late everynight since it's summertime and poor Bill still has to get up at his regular time. He's also been seeing the progress made everyday. My neighbor, Rennee, took pics of Monday's work and emailed them to me. Above are a few photos of the built-in bookcase and cabinet that is being put in. You can see the entire wall behind he fridge was removed. The carpenter moved the wall back about 6 inches so the fridge will be flush on the front side with the cabinets to the left. There is a small space where a bookshelf is being built on the other side of the new wall. It will have beadboard and will be painted to match the trim. I am so excited to see more of the built-in as it's coming together. I'll try to post tomorrow with updated photos. Thanks for reading!

The Transformation Contiues

Another day of extreme makeover going on in the Rodgers' home. While I was getting the oil changed on the van and gassing up for our trip to Alabama, the guys were at work disguising our paneling. It's amazing how just one coat of plaster is covering up that 46 year old wooden wall. The ceilings got a coat too and the signs of patched sheetrock are completely hidden. Tomorrow, the workers will put another coat on, then add the texture. It's looking so amazing. Next week will come paint to the trim, doors and baseboards and the carpenter comes to move the wall back behind the fridge and create a new built in. I purchased the new 20 inch tile and grout today and that will be installed next week as well. The boys and I are heading to Alabama in about 30 minutes, so hopefully, someone will take photos while I'm gone. I'll try and post while I'm away. Have a great weekend!

Let the Remodeling Begin

We finally decided to do some remodeling in our 46 year old home. We've been here 18 years and love our home, but it was time to change it up a bit. We had a huge fireplace that sort of served as a wall between the family room and the kitchen. After much "talk" of having this removed, we actually had it done. I took pics as we went along. The contractors were super professional - taped off the rest of the house with plastic to try and keep the dust from getting everywhere. I decided to take pictures along this journey and post on my blog. It's unbelievable the space this opened up. Next on the list is removing all this tile. As I type this, Matt is busy breaking it free from the slab. I'll post pics of that later on. Hope your summer is going well...it's flying by quickly.
